I'm Jessica, the face of Hawthorne Art.
I've been making art for as long as I can remember. As for photography, I first started taking portraits of friends and family when I was in high school. After a high school photography competition I was offered a job at a local photography company right before I graduated, and from that opportunity, I took portraits of everything from weddings to babies, daycares to sports, and everything in-between for 5 years full time.
I loved it so much that I headed to Atlanta, Ga and received my BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2010.
While at SCAD I discovered that I not only loved photography (especially film photography), but I also wanted to keep making art. After I got married I started my own art business selling things online and participating in craft fairs - all while still taking portraits of friends and family on the side.
When we moved back to NC I started teaching at a private school (where I've been for 10 years!) - starting with some amazing little preschool humans before transitioning to teaching art to students of all ages - from toddlers all the way to 8th graders.
This brings me to the present where I'm ready to spend more time with my two loves - photography and art! So if you're looking to have your portrait taken or to have a fun art experience with friends you've come to the right place.
